What is the Ledger Getting Started Hub?

The Hub at ledger.com/start centralizes setup guides, firmware updates, installation instructions for Ledger Live, and troubleshooting articles. It’s the official first stop for every new Ledger owner.

Why follow the Hub?

Following the official Hub reduces the risk of scams, outdated firmware, and incorrect setup. It ensures you install validated software (Ledger Live), pair your device securely, and record your recovery phrase correctly.

Quick note

Always confirm you are on the official Ledger domain. The Hub link above points to the official resource—use it as the authoritative setup path.

Step-by-step setup (recommended slide flow)

Tip: Each numbered step below maps to one or two slides. Keep visuals minimal—photo of device, screenshot of Ledger Live, and the recovery card.

1. Unbox and inspect

Inspect packaging for tamper signs. Ledger devices are shipped in sealed boxes; if anything looks altered, contact Ledger support via the Hub. Unpack carefully and make sure you have the device, USB cable, and recovery sheet.

2. Install Ledger Live

From the Hub, download Ledger Live for your OS. Ledger Live is the desktop and mobile app that manages apps on the device, shows account balances, and initiates transactions.

3. Initialize your device

Power on the device and follow on-screen prompts. Choose Create a new wallet or Restore from recovery phrase if you’re migrating from another wallet. Ledger devices display the recovery words on the device screen for increased security.

4. Write down your recovery phrase

Write the recovery phrase on the provided recovery sheet. Do not store it electronically. This phrase is the only backup to restore funds if the device is lost or damaged.

5. Install apps and add accounts

Use Ledger Live to install blockchain-specific apps (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum) on the device, then add accounts to Ledger Live to monitor balances and prepare transactions.

Security best practices

Never share your recovery phrase

Ledger support will never ask for your recovery phrase. Treat it like a physical key—if someone obtains it, they can access your assets.

Keep firmware and software updated

Regularly check the Hub or Ledger Live for firmware updates. Updates patch vulnerabilities, improve compatibility, and add supported assets.

Use official channels only

Only download Ledger Live and follow setup steps from the Hub. Avoid third-party links, social media download links, or attachments claiming to be Ledger software.

Additional protection

Day-to-day use & transactions

To send crypto, create a transaction in Ledger Live and confirm it on the physical device. Confirmations on the device screen ensure no remote tampering of amounts or addresses.

Receiving funds

Use Ledger Live to receive: generate a receiving address, verify it on the device screen, then share it with the sender. Always verify the first few characters match between device and app.

Third-party integrations

Ledger works with popular wallets, DEXs, and institutions through secure integrations. When connecting, always confirm the address on your device display before approving.

Troubleshooting & recovery

Lost device? Restore from recovery phrase

If your Ledger is lost or stolen, buy a new device and restore using your recovery phrase via Ledger Live. Do this on a fresh device obtained from official channels.

Device not recognized

If your device isn’t recognized by Ledger Live, try the USB cable, check OS permissions, or consult the Hub’s troubleshooting guides for stepwise fixes.
